1955 Chevrolet 3100

The Chevrolet 3100 pickup truck, better known by the name Chevrolet Advance Design Series, was the first major redesign done by GM after WWII. The pickup truck came with a tougher, rougher, and more durable style than previous Chevrolet designs. Simply put, the Chevy 3100 was much more updated.

Released for the first time in June, 1947, these Chevy pickup trucks were produced until March, 1955. The Chevrolet Advance Design model was replaced by the Task Force Series. From 1947 to 1955, Chevy trucks ranked number one in sales in the United States. The Chevrolet 3100 pickup truck came in three sizes: the half, 3/4, and full ton capacity with both short and long wheelbases.

The ‘55 Chevy 3100 was a big departure from the Chevrolet’s existing line of pickups.  The old pontoon-style fenders were replaced with rounded sheet-metal, while the big wrap-around windshield offered the driver improved visibility giving the pickup truck a more contemporary look as well.

The 1955 Chevy 3100 marked the debut of GM’s small block V8 engine, which soon became the most popular American truck engine ever. Thanks to its 4-barrel carburetor, the 1955 4.3-liter small block engine could deliver up to 180 hp.
