1947 Chevrolet 3100
After World War II, Chevrolet continued to sell pickups of the Series AK, presented in 1941. The debut of the new generation of pickups was held in 1947, the series received its own name Advance Design.
The lineup of new pickups consisted of the “light” series 3100 (the analog of the modern Silverado 1500), and heavy 3600 and 3800 -- the progenitors of Chevy Silverado HD 2500 and 3500. Development of new pickups began in 1942, on mock-ups of those years are already visible stylistic solutions used in the creation of the Advance Design. Compared to previous models, the new pickups have gotten much more spacious and comfortable cabin. There is evidence that during the development of new pickups Chevrolet conducts surveys of owners of corporate fleets, which they believe to be the perfect pick-up cabin. Most of the buyers’ wishes -- a large seat, allowing three adult passengers to comfortably accommodate, improved visibility, a wide and high door of the cab to facilitate embarkation / disembarkation -- were taken into account.
Pickups from the Chevrolet Advance Design series led in sales in the US from 1947 to 1955. The pickup of the first model years was equipped with six-cylinder engine with volume of 3.5 liters, developing 90 hp and 235 Nm, and three-speed manual transmission, four-speed automatic has been available for a fee. In 1954, the pickup has undergone restyling: a 3.5-liter engine gave way to the straight-six engine with volume of 3.9 liters, which is issued in different configurations from 112 to 136 hp. Also in 1954 appeared in the list of options automatic transmission Hydra-Matic, and the windshield was intact, rather than consisting of two halves.
