2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10
After the success of General Motors and Ford Motor Company in the field of sport tracks, the company Dodge thought about creating a super pickup which will wipe the nose of both competitors in speed and dynamics. The basis for the truck has been the already proven Dodge Ram 1500. To give a worthy answer to the competitors, the truck had to have the most powerful engine of all ever made by the company. Since the Ram could be equipped with 5.9-liter V8, specialists of the factory studio SRT were thinking of an even larger engine.
The choice fell on the 8.3-liter V10 from the supercar Dodge Viper. The aluminum block had cast iron liners and gave nearly 90 % of torque already at 1500 rev / min. With a capacity of 500 hp and 512 Nm of torque it was the most powerful series-built truck in the world. To cope with such a moment could only the Viper’s 6-speed Tremec T-56 and enhanced Dana 60 Rear Axle Heavy Duty, but on request can be also installed the 4-speed 48RE automatic.
The dynamic performance of the pickup matched its motor, for example, from zero to 60 miles per hour it accelerated in 5.6 seconds. In July 2004, the Ram SRT-10 was driven by NASCAR racer Brendan Gaughan setting a world speed record for serial full-size pickups, writing in the Guinness Book of Records the record of 249 km / h. The company noted that the truck was completely standard, which was subsequently confirmed by tests of the Motor Trend magazine, where the journalists dispersed the pickup on the track up to speed 250 km / h.
Among the external differences of this truck from the standard Ram it is worth noting the aerodynamic kit, designed specifically for this model. It includes a new front bumper with splitter, rear bumper modified configuration, new thresholds and hood with large air intake.
