BMW 507
The BMW 507 made its debut in the mid-50s, differing with its radically new design and genuine elegance. This beautiful roadster was a response of the Bavarian automaker to the model of its main rival Mercedes-Benz 300SE. The making of the car was entrusted to the talented young designer Albert Hertz.
The premiere of the BMW 507 was held in New York in 1955. Fantastically beautiful shape model, not subject to the influence of automotive fashion, led to a complete delight of critics and ordinary public. The long bonnet, a comfortable lounge, a short feed, stretched side lines and neat smooth curvature makes the car a work of art. Typical were the side air intakes with white-blue BMW logo inside.
A few weeks after the premiere in New York the roadster again had great success already at the 1955 International Motor Show. The BMW 507 symbolized an extravagant lifestyle, known to most Germans only on films.
Under the hood was hiding a powerful 3.2-liter V8 engine, which same as the body of the 507, was made of aluminum. This unit is considered the first serial automobile engine, made of light alloys. As for its features, then, thanks to a pair of Zenith 32NDIX carburettors, increased compression ratio and the use of specially adapted parts, it developed up to 150 “horses”, providing acceleration of the car to 220 km / h.
