Chrysler Turbine

The Chrysler Turbine car is an experimental cars with gas turbine engine (GTE) made by George Huebner, developed in the years 1953-1979 by the company Chrysler. For the duration of the program, the company had experienced seven generations of the GTR and built 77 samples of the prototype vehicles, including a pilot series of fifty cars in the company’s original body “Gia”. The model does not have its own name and became known simply as the Turbine car. In 1963-1966, production cars have passed long-term tests on public roads. Completion of the test coincided with the financial crisis at Chrysler and the preparations for the introduction of the first American standard on exhaust toxicity and fuel consumption, so the company refused to run a gas turbine car in mass production. Nine cars in a body “Gia” are preserved in museums and private collections, others were destroyed in 1967. Huebner continued to work on improving the GTE, but none of his subsequent developments did not even reached the small-scale production.
