Chevrolet Bel Air
Chevrolet Bel Air is a full-size car produced by the Chevrolet division of the General Motors Corporation from 1949 to 1975 (in Canada, the cars were sold under this designation until the 1981 model year). It was named in honor of the prestigious area of Los Angeles, California.
From 1950 to 1952 the name Bel Air was used to denote the hardtop model of the Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe, which was not an independent model.
Until 1959 the Bel Air was the most expensive and well-equipped model of Chevrolet, standing below the “150” model, “210” and Biscayne. In 1958, appears the model Chevrolet Bel Air Impala, which since 1959 is allocated to a separate model on a step higher than the Bel Air. In 1965 was released the Chevrolet Impala Caprice, model at even higher price range, and the Bel Air is reduced in the full-size Chevrolet lineup in the position of the lower-level models. More below was only the model Chevrolet Biscayne, mainly used as a taxi (the Chevy Bel Air in those years was also popular among taxi companies). On the basis of Bel Air was also created the universal Chevrolet Beauville, while in 1957 was replaced the model Townsman (4-door) and Nomad (2-door).
