1978-1980 Ford Bronco
In the ‘70s, the Chevy Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger SUVs were based on full-size pickup trucks, so they were capable to haul and tow as real trucks. The Ford Bronco retained its original small platform until 1978, when it finally was built on to the Ford F-150 chassis. The second-generation large Ford Bronco was no less cool than the original model, especially if the customer ordered the option of a big-block 460-cid V8 engine installed under its hood.
In 1981 Ford refined the chassis of the Bronco, which resulted in it losing its durable Dana 44 solid front axle in favor of a new Twin-Traction Beam setup which had less off-road capabilities. So during the first 3 years of the large Ford Bronco found the strongest following among fans of Ford trucks.
