1935-2014 Chevrolet Suburban

The influence of the Chevrolet Suburban can be seen in every corner of the four-wheel-drive world. The Chevrolet Suburban (originally called Suburban Carryall) was the first SUV in the U.S. 4WD came along in 1957 and soon would transform how the United States got around in tough weather conditions. The Suburban didn’t had four doors like on passenger cars until the boxy 1973 model was released, but that Suburban with square fenders will remain on the market until 1991.

In the ‘70s and ‘80s, this large SUV with three rows became a popular replacement for the station wagon. The Suburban came with an optional with big-block 454 V8 engine able to tow 10,000 pounds which made it just right for ranchers. On the other hand, the heavier-duty 2500 Suburban became the favorite vehicle for the U.S. secret service.

While competitors from Ford, International, and other companies have come and gone, the Chevrolet Suburban remains the most dominant big SUV of America.
