1984-1985 Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner trucks were some of the most capable compact vehicles with four wheel drive ever offered on the market in the United States. They were based on Toyota pickups with four wheel drive of those days and were over-engineered to have some serious durability. The solid axle and leaf spring suspension at each end provided the Toyota 4Runner with off-road capability that matched Jeep’s. Also the fuel-injected 22RE engines with 4 cylinders are almost indestructible. If you take a long look at the Toyota 4Runner from 2014 it will probably be tough to notice the lineage that dates back 3 decades. Early Toyota 4Runner trucks were much closer to pickups with caps on their backs rather to integrated SUVs.
