1989-1993 W-250/350 Dodge Power Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel
By the ‘80s, Chevrolet and Ford were already producing heavy-duty diesel pickups. So the Dodge Ram heavy-duty trucks powered by Cummins turbodiesel engines were late in this game. However, by mounting essentially the same Cummins diesel engine with 6 cylinders which was used in large commercial trucks, Dodge got an engine which was known for its longevity and durability. And this is what helped Dodge to finally succeed in the heavy-duty pickup market.
At launch, the Dodge Power Ram 6-cylinder Cummins produced 400 lb-ft of torque which was more than comparable models by Chevrolet or Ford. The power of the truck not only gave courage to the owners to carry heavier loads with it, but also it got Ford and General Motors to start a torque war that caries on to this day.
