1993-1995 Ford Lightning
To directly response to Chevrolet 454 SS, Ford released its Ford Lightning model, a pickup truck with high performance which was tuned by the manufacturer’s SVT team. Instead of installing a bigger and heavier engine under its hood, the SVT team modified Ford’s 5.8L small block V8 inside and out using high-performance parts which made it capable of delivering power of 240 hp and torque of 340 lb-ft. The suspension was lowered by 2.5 inches, and thanks to new shock absorbers, springs, anti-roll bars, and big 17” tires, Ford Lightning could handle better than its rival from Chevrolet. Over 11,000 samples of the first- generation Ford Lightning were built. The Lightning was so well received that the company released a second generation in 1999.
