1978-1979 Dodge Lil’ Red Express Truck

Back in 1978, this red pickup truck with its awesome 18-wheeler exhaust stacks was one of the fastest American vehicles that a person could buy. The secret lies in the tuning. Being a part of Dodge’s “Adult Toys” lineup of trucks, the Red Express truck was built with the purpose of being a real muscle truck. So the engineers took the same 360-cid V8 which was used for police duty and modified it a bit more. As a result the engine produced 225 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which was 5 more hp and 35 more lb-ft than the most powerful Chevrolet Corvette of those days. Dodge released the 1978 model without using catalytic convertors that decreased the performance. The truck had them one year later, but neither its performance or popularity had suffered -- the company sold over 5000 samples in 1979.
