1979-85 Toyota Hilux Pickup

Among the truck manufacturers in Japan, Datsun may have gotten the first starting point in the U.S. market in the late ‘50s, but it was Toyota that started to dominate it in the following decades. Toyota would be the first company to offer a four wheel drive in a compact truck with the release of its 1979 Hilux, and gave this pickup truck a drivetrain which was almost bulletproof. These trucks sat tall on their suspension systems, providing some serious ground clearance for offroading. What’s even more important, these trucks were tremendously reliabile and were quickly adopted as a small pickup of choice.
